Efficiency:
With a high efficiency system, rising utility bills and energy costs won’t be as much of a burden. That’s because our heating and cooling systems call on fewer resources when in use, you save more money. In January 2006, the Department of Energy increased the minimum SEER from 10 to 13. SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) indicates the efficiencies of different types of equipment. The majority of systems installed before 1992 are 10 SEER or below and will continue to drop in efficiency as the systems age. Not only do new systems meet the government standard; in many cases, they exceed it.
Purchase price is only part of the picture

ENERGY STAR is a voluntary awareness, communications and marketing campaign developed by the U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in 1992 to promote energy efficiency.
